Welcome to the Interstate 80 Improvement Website!
PROJECT SUMMARY
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is planning major improvements on Interstate 80 from Grundy County Line to U.S. Route 45. From Grundy County Line to U.S. Route 30, IDOT plans to resurface Interstate 80 and rehabilitate 29 bridges. The construction will also include the resurfacing of all ramps and interstate shoulders.
From U.S. Route 30 (Lincoln Highway) to U.S. Route 45 (Lagrange Road), IDOT plans to add a third lane in both directions on Interstate 80. Currently, Interstate 80 experiences congestion along the highway especially in the region of the Interstate 80/Interstate 355 interchange. Thus, IDOT plans to improve traffic safety, relieve congestion, and reduce delays. In addition, IDOT plans to select certain locations for noise walls to help mitigate traffic noises due to the improvement. Furthermore, IDOT will construct median shoulders along both sides of Interstate 80 with an additional concrete barrier down the center. The final improvement will
also consist of drainage and bridge widening work.

WORK
ZONE SAFETY
Did you know work zone fatalities are down 29.6 percent compared to 2003?
Aggressive law enforcement and awareness campaigns and significant improvements
to work zone safety traffic control reduced Illinois work zone fatalities from
44 in 2003, including 5 workers, to 31 with 2 workers killed in 2008. So,
Give ‘em a brake…slow down for their sake and yours!
IDOT appreciates your patience and understanding as we work to improve the
roadways in your community.
