A: Phase I of the I-55@Weber Road Study is anticipated to be completed in early 2014.
Q: What is the purpose of this study?
A: The goal of this Categorical Exclusion Type II is to identify transportation deficiencies, develop improvement alternatives, recommend preferred improvements, and identify and evaluate impacts of a preferred transportation improvement for I-55 at Weber Road.
Q: Who is a project stakeholder?
A: I-55@Weber Road Study stakeholders are individuals and organizations that are actively involved in the project, or whose interests may be affected as a result of project completion. Stakeholder involvement is critical to the success of this project and an integral part of the Context Sensitive Solutions (CSS) process.
Q: What is Context Sensitive Solutions (CSS)?
A: Context Sensitive Solutions (CSS) became official policy for the Department of Transportation (IDOT) in August of 2005. Context Sensitive Solutions is an interdisciplinary approach that seeks effective, multimodal transportation solutions by working with stakeholders to develop, build and maintain cost-effective transportation facilities which fit into and reflect the project’s surroundings – its “context.” More information on CSS can be found on IDOT’s website.
Q: Who is involved in this project?
A: The project is being conducted by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). Representatives from Will County, the Village of Bolingbrook, and the Village of Romeoville have been invited to take part in the stakeholder involvement process.
Q: When will construction start?
A: Phase II Engineering, Land Acquisition, Construction and Construction Engineering for this project is included in our Department’s FY 2014-2019 Multi-Modal Transportation Improvement Program contingent upon the sale of approximately 200 acres of unused property currently owned by the Illinois Department of Corrections as stipulated in Public Act 95-0019, and contingent upon local financial participation for improvements to adjacent highway facilities under local jurisdiction.
