Access Highland Project

Welcome

Welcome to the official website for the Access Highland project. Our focus is the status of the current effort to improve access to I-70 for the Highland region of Madison County, Illinois. This website contains general project information, public involvement opportunities, a location map and updates as the project progresses.
The preliminary engineering study for the I-70 access improvements near Highland is in its early stages. A recommended alternative has been selected to prepare an Access Justification Report that will be submitted to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The recommended alternative involves a new interchange at IL Route 160 and improving the IL Route 160 corridor from North of I-70 to the roundabout. No final decisions regarding planned improvements have been made.
We encourage your participation and feedback during this study. If you would like to be added to our mailing list to receive project information and our newsletter, please click here. Also, please feel free to contact us by clicking here.

Project Description

This project will study access for the Highland area to I-70. The study area includes the area around I-70 from the I-70 & Illinois Route 143 interchange to the I-70 and US Highway 40 interchange. A detailed description of the improvements will be developed through the public involvement process.

The Illinois Department of Transportation appreciates your input in this process.
