• The Bureau of Airport Engineering oversees and approves the planning, design and construction of all federally and state assisted capital development projects at publicly owned airports throughout Illinois.
• The Bureau of Aviation Safety is responsible for the inspection and certification of all airport facilities whether they be private or publicly owned. The Bureau also registers pilots and aircraft based in Illinois and supports the activities of the Illinois Wing of the Civil Air Patrol.  In addition, the Bureau conducts several pilot safety seminars, produces the Illinois Aeronautical Chart, the Illinois Airport Directory and a bi-monthly publication entitled "Illinois Aviation Magazine".
• The Bureau of Air Operations provides air transport services to state government and provides aerial assistance to law enforcement, disaster response agencies, homeland security, aerial photography, and engineering services.
  
• The Bureau of Administrative Services oversees personnel actions and the payment of contractors doing business with the Division including airport construction projects within Illinois. The Office of the Director coordinates the activities of the Division.

Presently, there are approximately 1,125 landing facilities in Illinois that range from O'Hare International Airport as the largest and most complex to a small grass strip located in a farmer's back yard. In addition to airports, there are balloon and glider ports, ultralight landing facilities, seaplane bases and heliports.
