We received some wonderful letters from the Grand Middle School
Students thanking Secretary Hannig and the IDOT staff for the
great time they had during Career Day.
One student writes: “I learned a lot of things
doing the various activities, like how when building a bridge
triangles are more stable than squares…I learned the importance
of working together and having a good team manager.”
Another student writes,
“I loved the 3D images, that was amazing! The helicopter was
really cool too. The activities were definitely the most fun,
and our guides were SO COOL!”
Thank you to all of the wonderful volunteers, group guides,
partners, students, staff and committee members who planned
and participated this year. Special thanks to Deputy Director
Lesa Branham for overseeing the planning of the event and to
Chief of Operations Ann Schneider and Chief of Staff Marva Boyd for getting the kids excited for the day during the
A big thank-you also goes out to the Maintenance Crew,
Electrical Crew and Volunteers for their hard work getting
everything out to the fairgrounds, setting-up and then getting
everything back in order at the end of the day. Everyone worked

Career Day 2009
3rd Annual IDOT Career Day
October 1, 2009
The 3rd Annual IDOT Career Day, Springfield, was held October 1,
2009 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds Expo building and Happy
Hallow. Approximately 575 middle and high school students from
20 schools attended Career Day this year to learn about the
different careers in transportation from over 60 exhibitors.
Although, the weather did not give us much of a break, the group
guides rose to the challenge and kept their students entertained
with a little help from the exhibitors.
Additionally, there were several volunteers who served as group
guides, provided exhibits and activities, worked the
registration table and lunch are and helped with the set up and
clean up. As always, this event would not have been possible
without the participation of our industry partners. Thank you to
everyone who made the 3rd Annual IDOT Career Day a success!
