Congress Parkway Alternate Routes

During the reconstruction of the bridge traffic delays are inevitable.

To assist drivers in avoiding these delays, IDOT recommends the alternate routes below. Hopefully these suggested routes will help to make your travel and commute less stressful. In addition, IDOT suggests public transportation, creative route planning, avoidance of project area, and car pooling.
 

OUTBOUND

Leaving Downtown Chicago

Take Michigan Ave. either North or South

South: to Roosevelt Road, head West to Sacramento Boulevard, head North to I-290 Westbound

North: to Adams Street, head West to Ogden Avenue, head South to Van Buren Street, head West to I-290 Westbound

INBOUND

Traveling into Downtown Chicago

Eastbound on Interstate 290

Take the Sacramento Boulevard exit or the Canal Street Ramp Exit

Sacrament Boulevard Exit

Head North or South

North: to Warren Avenue/ Washington Boulevard, head East to Michigan Avenue, head South to Congress Parkway

South: to Roosevelt Road, head East to Michigan Avenue, head North to Congress Parkway

Canal Street Ramp

Head South on Canal Street to Harrison Street, head East to Michigan Avenue, head North to Congress Parkway
