| From the 1930's through the 1960's, there were many
advertising signs painted on the sides of barns and
other buildings along old U.S. 66. One of the few
remaining sites is a barn advertising Missouri 's
Meramec Caverns; this recently restored barn is
located north of Pontiac in the small settlement of
Cayuga. IDOT participated in this project by
providing a pull-off area and cul-de-sac (visible in
the foreground) so that visitors could safely exit
the roadway and take photographs. |
