Back to District 4 Projects

Interstate 74

The I-74/I-155 Interchange reconstruction project encompasses the area from just east of the I-474 through the Morton Avenue Interchange. This project includes removal and replacement of 7 structures, interchange geometric improvements at the I-74/I-155 and Morton Avenue Interchanges, addition of a 6 lane roadway segment from the existing 4 lane segment, drainage improvements, new highway lighting, signing, and Intelligent Transportation Systems improvements. Phase I for the project is complete and Phase II is underway.

The close proximity of the project to the village of Morton, several major trucking firms, past issues with area residents, and the major staging/traffic issues have made CSS a useful tool in the planning phase. The Community Advisory Group (CAG) was presented the opportunity to view and discuss alternatives for the proposed reconstruction as well as voice concerns related to the construction and overall final design. The CAG became an integral voice in the final alternative selected and felt a sense of empowerment having been a part of the process. The scope of the project was increased based on input from the CAG members.
