This is an example of cooperative landscaping
planning for the medians and interchange area of this
roadway.
The City of Urbana considered this interchange to be
an gateway to the city, especially for those going to
the University of Illinois . Because of this, IDOT
worked extensively with the city to develop a “gateway”
feel to the project.
IDOT helped the city choose, purchase and place
vegetation and other treatments that were safe and not
costly to maintain, while still being pleasing to the
eye.
