Illinois Route 104
The IL 104 bridge at Meredosia project
utilized CSS to determine the alignment for the
IL 104 crossing the Illinois River and a
preferred alternative has been selected.
Illinois Route 104 (IL-104) runs through the
town of Meredosia and serves as a main street
through its business district. The route
connects to US Route 67 about 2.8 miles east of
the town and continues westward across the
Illinois River, eventually connecting to IL-99.
The existing IL-104 Bridge over the Illinois
River was built in 1936. The Illinois Department
of Transportation has considered improving the
bridge due to its substandard geometry and
deterioration over the years. This study is a
Phase I Preliminary Engineering and
Environmental Assessment for IL-104 in Morgan
and Pike Counties. The purpose of this study is
to identify the transportation needs of the
communities affected by this project, evaluate
possible alternatives for the improvement of the
bridge, and identify a preferred alternative for
further engineering in next phase (Phase II) of
the project.
The advisory committee assisted in developing
various alignments for the river crossing, and
how they would affect the community and those
using this route. The preferred alternative,
which has support from the advisory committee,
local officials, and the general public, was
developed by the advisory committee. The local
community had ownership of the alternative
selected and did not feel the alternative was
selected for them.
