Welcome to IL Route 53 (Rohlwing Road)
Reconstruction and Widening Website!
The Illinois Department of Transportation
(IDOT) plans to reconstruct and widen Illinois Route 53 (Rohlwing
Road) from Army Trail Road on the southern limits to the Elgin O’
Hare Expressway on the northern limits. Illinois Route 53 needs improvement due to high traffic
volumes, high crash rates, and increased accidents during the past
few years. IDOT will construct additional thru lanes and turning
lanes along the Illinois Route 53 corridor.
The
purpose of the $45.5 million dollar project is to enhance the flow
of traffic and reduce the potential for accidents. The goal of
Illinois Route 53 (Rohlwing Road) reconstruction is to provide a
safer ride for the motoring public. Motorists should expect delays
and use caution when workers are present. IDOT suggests using
alternate routes and public transportation.

WORK ZONE SAFETY
Did you know work zone fatalities are down
29.6 percent compared to 2003? Aggressive law enforcement and
awareness campaigns and significant improvements to work zone safety
traffic control reduced Illinois work zone fatalities from 44 in
2003, including 5 workers, to provisionally 30 with 3 workers killed
in 2010.
So, Give ‘em a brake…slow down for their sake and yours!
IDOT appreciates your patience and
understanding as we work to improve the roadways in your community.
