City Map Program

The department initiated the City Map Program in the early 1960’s. There are 1,200 different city maps with 203 maps for those cities whose population is more than 5,000 and 997 maps for cities less than 5,000.

Cartographers prepared City Maps based on aerial photographs and USGS quad sheets. Department district personnel then verified the maps. The scale for cities with a population over 5,000 is typically 1:9,600. The scale varies for maps of the smaller cities. The department added state plane coordinates and latitude/longitude in the late 1960s to accurately tie them into the county maps.
