Multi-Modal Transportation Improvement Program

Beginning in September, the Illinois Department of Transportation will hold public outreach meetings concerning the development of our Fiscal Year 2013-2018 Proposed Multi-Modal Transportation Improvement Program. The Division of Highways has scheduled these meetings early in the program development phase so that your input can be taken into consideration along with our pavement and bridge needs analyses and other project initiatives already presented to the Department in development of this Program.

The Department is specifically seeking comments concerning three areas:

1. overall transportation system performance in your regions;
    

2. regional transportation priorities that might affect the development of the next Multi-Modal Transportation Improvement Program; and
    

3. specific comments concerning projects that should be considered for inclusion in the program. The Department is also seeking comments on how to improve the effectiveness of our public outreach efforts.

At these meetings, the public will also be able to provide comments on the Long-Range State Transportation Plan. IDOT began updating the Long-Range State Transportation Plan earlier this year and conducted public open houses to seek input to ensure that transportation policies reflect the needs of Illinois citizens and transportation users. Based on stakeholder comments and feedback received from ongoing outreach efforts. IDOT’s new initiatives include sustainability, multi-modal connectivity, and human capital investment. As part of the Plan, a statewide freight mobility plan was also developed. At the open houses, the public will be able to view exhibit boards and talk one-on-one with representatives from the Illinois State Transportation Plan update team about new initiatives and revised policies and goals being developed for in for the Plan update. The website offers residents, visitors and businesses that use the transportation system an opportunity to comment on the plan through a comment page on the website.
