Introduction
The FY 2006-2008 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) is
a three-year program of highway and transit projects developed to
fulfill the requirements set forth in the Intermodal Surface
Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA) and its successor the
Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21). The FY
2006-2008 STIP totals $11 billion with $4.9 billion for highway
improvements and $6.1 billion for transit capital improvements and
operating assistance. The FY 2006-2011 Proposed Improvement Programs for
highways and public transportation, published by the Illinois Department
of Transportation, have been utilized in developing this STIP document
and serves as the focus for public review and comment.
