PARIS, IL -- The Paris District announces that work is scheduled for 2.5
miles of U.S. 51 from Shafer Street in Forsyth to south Interstate 72 in
Decatur.
The contract includes patching and resurfacing, curb and gutter removal and
replacement, installing storm sewer and drainage structures, modernizing four
traffic signals, pavement striping and raised reflective pavement markers.
Work will begin April 1, 2003, weather permitting, and is expected to be
completed in November 2003.
Motorists are cautioned that during construction U.S. 51 will periodically be
reduced to one-lane traffic. Motorists are also reminded about the Department’s
"Give ‘em a Brake" program to slow speeds in work zone areas and to be alert for
workers and machinery.
Contractor for the $2,476,880.58 project is Illinois Valley Paving Co. The
Department’s Resident Engineer for the project is William Parker, Jr. and can be
