NEW TRAFFIC SIGNALS FOR RURAL KANE COUNTY WEST OF ELGIN

SCHAUMBURG-On April 22, a new traffic signal will be activated in rural Kane County, west of Elgin. At approximately 10 a.m., crews will turn on new signals at the intersection of IL 47 and Plank Road. The new traffic signal will replace the overhead flashing beacon and stop signs.

In addition, at IL 47 and Plato Road, stop signs will be installed with an overhead flasher. For the safety of the motoring public, it should be noted that the stop and go conditions that now exist in these areas will be changed. Traffic, which currently flows freely on IL 47 at this intersection, will be required to stop. Motorists should use caution when approaching these intersections and obey these traffic control devices.

Recently, two new signals at the junctions of IL 47, 72, and U.S. 20, further north in the community of Starks were turned on April 2.
The contractor for these projects is Meade Electric of McCook, Illinois.

IDOT would like to remind motorists to abide by the posted speed limit and use extra caution when driving in work zones. When workers are present on Illinois Highways the speed limit is 45 mph, unless otherwise posted. Keep Us Alive Drive 45 is the Orange Ribbon campaign IDOT launched this construction season to recognize those who have lost their lives in work zones and to serve as a remind for motorist to slow down stay alert when driving. In 2003, 44-people were killed in work zone related accidents five of those people were construction workers. In addition, one IDOT minuteman and a tollway worker was killed while on duty.
