CONCRETE PAVING TO SLOW TRAFFIC ON IL 72
(
HIGGINS ROAD IN EAST DUNDEE )

SCHAUMBURG-On April 27 and 28, weather permitting, crews will be pouring concrete on Higgins Road (IL 72) in East Dundee. The work zone extends from Penny Road (IL 68) to Dundee Avenue (IL 25). One lane will continue to be open in each direction. Eastbound traffic will be using the center turn lane.

Motorists should watch for trucks entering and leaving the pavement area, and drive carefully through the construction zone. Higgins Road is being rebuilt and widened to five lanes. The contractor for the $7.2 million dollar project is Plote, Incorporated of Elgin, Illinois.

.............................................

IDOT would like to remind motorists to abide by the posted speed limit and use extra caution when driving in work zones. When workers are present on Illinois highways the speed limit is 45 mph, unless otherwise posted. Keep Us Alive Drive 45 is the Orange Ribbon campaign IDOT launched this construction season to recognize those who have lost their lives in work zones and to remind motorists to slow down and stay alert when driving. In 2003, 44 people were killed in work zone related accidents. Five of those people were construction workers. In addition, one IDOT minuteman and a tollway worker were killed while on duty.
