SCHAUMBURG,
IL -- Motorists will soon see more construction work on
Palatine Road . Beginning on May 10, the intersection of
US 14 ( Northwest Highway ), Hicks Road and Palatine
Road will be resurfaced. The work also includes drainage
improvements, and road striping. Traffic will be reduced
to one lane in each direction during the daytime. No
overnight or permanent lane closures are expected.
Access to local businesses will be maintained. The work
is expected to be completed by late June. The contractor
for the $192,000 project is Peter Baker and Sons of Lake
Bluff, Illinois.
East of US 14 (Northwest Highway), another
patching and resurfacing project already has
Palatine Road reduced to one lane in each direction
between US 14 and Arlington Heights Road. Motorists
should drive with care and watch out for workers on
these sections of Palatine Road in Palatine and
Arlington Heights . All work in the area should be
completed weather permitting by early August. The
eastern portion of this $500.000 project is being
constructed by C.A. Cement Company of Bloomingdale.

IDOT would like to remind motorists to abide by the
posted speed limit and use extra caution when driving in
work zones. When workers are present on Illinois
highways the speed limit is 45 mph, unless otherwise
posted. Keep Us Alive Drive 45 is the Orange Ribbon
campaign IDOT launched this construction season to
recognize those who have lost their lives in work zones
and to remind motorists to slow down and stay alert when
driving. In 2003, 44 people were killed in work zone
related accidents. Five of those people were
construction workers. In addition, one IDOT minuteman
and a tollway worker were killed while on duty.
