NEW TRAFFIC SIGNALS FOR LAGRANGE PARK AND BROOKFIELD

SCHAUMBURG, IL -- Work will begin on May 3 to improve the traffic signals along 31st Street in LaGrange Park and Brookfield. The project will help regulate traffic flow through these busy intersections from Wolf Road to 17th Avenue. The work will include the installation of a new fiber optic communication network, vehicle detectors, and the addition of an emergency vehicle priority system. This will allow fire trucks and ambulances to change the traffic signals while responding to calls.

There will be daily lane closures while the work is being done, which will include the replacement of some of the traffic signals on 31st Street. The project is expected to last until the end of September.
The contractor for the $436,000 project is H and H Electric of Franklin Park, Illinois.

IDOT would like to remind motorists to abide by the posted speed limit and use extra caution when driving in work zones. When workers are present on Illinois highways the speed limit is 45 mph, unless otherwise posted. Keep Us Alive Drive 45 is the Orange Ribbon campaign IDOT launched this construction season to recognize those who have lost their lives in work zones and to remind motorists to slow down and stay alert when driving. In 2003, 44 people were killed in work zone related accidents. Five of those people were construction workers. In addition, one IDOT minuteman and a tollway worker were killed while on duty.
