US 30 RAMPS AND LANES CLOSED MAY 3-5

SCHAUMBURG, IL -- Weather permitting, the eastbound lanes of US 30 between IL 394 (Calumet Expressway) and IL 83 will be closed during the daytime from May 3-5 for concrete paving. The closures will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Traffic will be detoured onto northbound IL 394 to Glenwood-Dyer Road.

In addition, the exit ramps from northbound and southbound IL 394 to eastbound US 30 will also be closed during the daytime on May 3 and possibly May 4. Motorists should follow the posted detour routes.

Traffic is already reduced to one lane in each direction between IL 394 and IL 83. There are turn lanes at Torrence Avenue, along with width restrictions and a 35 mph speed limit. Motorists should drive with care through the construction zone and watch for flaggers.

US 30 is undergoing pavement reconstruction, and traffic signal modernization in the towns of Ford Heights, Sauk Village and Lynwood. Work on the $11.7 Million dollar project is expected to be completed by the middle of July. The contractor for the project is K-Five Construction Company of Lemont.

IDOT would like to remind motorists to abide by the posted speed limit and use extra caution when driving in work zones. When workers are present on Illinois highways the speed limit is 45 mph, unless otherwise posted. Keep Us Alive Drive 45 is the Orange Ribbon campaign IDOT launched this construction season to recognize those who have lost their lives in work zones and to remind motorists to slow down and stay alert when driving. In 2003, 44 people were killed in work zone related accidents. Five of those people were construction workers. In addition, one IDOT minuteman and a tollway worker were killed while on duty.
