SPRINGFIELD, IL -- The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that highway construction work will be suspended, where possible, on state highways to give motorists a break for the Memorial Day weekend.

Work zone areas will be opened for normal traffic patterns during the afternoon of Friday, May 23, and will remain open until midnight Monday, May 26.

However, there will be a number of work zones that will continue to have lane closures. Motorists are advised to slow down and be alert in those work zones, and are reminded that work zone speed limits are still in effect. Motorists are advised to check IDOT's traveler website www.illinoisroads.info for road construction information. Interstate road information is also available at 1-800-452 IDOT (4368).

In the greater Chicago area there will be work on the following expressways:

• I-57: Two lanes of traffic open in each direction throughout the 12-mile stretch between Halsted Street in Chicago and I-80 in Country Club Hills, while road resurfacing and bridge rehabilitation is underway.
• I-290/ IL 53: From IL 58 in Schaumburg to Thorndale Road in Itasca, major road reconstruction and addition of auxiliary lanes. Three lanes open in each direction. IL 72 (Higgins Road) entrance ramp to northbound I-290/ IL 53 remains closed.
• I-80 at US 45: In Frankfort and Orland Park, US 45 from 179th Street to 191st Street, ongoing interchange reconstruction, bridge reconstruction. One lane open in each direction. Ramp detours in place from northbound US 45 to eastbound I-80. 191st Street reduced to one lane in each direction. Closures at LaGrange Road & 179th Street with detours posted. Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for new traffic patterns.

ADAMS COUNTY

• US 24 Eastbound (Quincy Memorial Bridge) is closed to complete painting. US 24 traffic eastbound & westbound will use Quincy Bayview Bridge, one lane traffic in each direction.
• IL 96, Curtis Creek Bridge south of State Street in Quincy (Bridge Replacement). One lane traffic is controlled by temporary signals.

ALEXANDER COUNTY

• I-57, 1 mile south of Cairo Bridge repairs. One southbound and one northbound lane open to traffic.

BUREAU COUNTY

• Interstate 80, mile marker 50, widening and deck replacement of the structure over West Bureau Creek north of Wyanet. One lane open in each direction.
• Interstate 80, eastbound only from mile marker 36 to 40, widening and deck replacement of three sets of bridges over King Creek, Barbara Ditch, and Abbott Ditch. One lane open in each direction.

CALHOUN COUNTY

• 100 at Hardin, bridge repairs. One lane open, two-way traffic maintained by traffic signals.

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY

• Interstate 57, mile marker 219 to 233, bridge deck replacements on six bridges. One lane open at various locations.
• Interstate 57, mile marker 229, bridge deck replacement. One lane open on Monticello Road, traffic controlled by signals.
• Prairie View Road over I-74, bridge deck replacement. One lane open on Prairie View Road, traffic controlled by signals.

CLARK COUNTY

• Interstate 70, mile marker 134 to 147, pavement reconstruction of the eastbound lanes. Traffic one lane each direction separated by a temporary concrete barrier on the existing westbound lanes.

COLES COUNTY

• Interstate 57, mile marker 190 to 204, bridge deck repair and replacement on four bridges. One lane open at various locations.

COOK COUNTY

• Schaumburg and Hanover Park: IL 19/ Irving Park Road, resurfacing from Barrington Road to Wise road. Traffic reduced to one lane in each direction.
• Des Plaines: IL 58/ Golf Road, bridge work and upgrades to traffic signals, drainage and turn lanes, over the Des Plaines River to US 45/Des Plaines River Road. One lane open in each direction on Golf Road and Des Plaines River Road.
• Hickory Hills: US 12/20/45 / LaGrange Road, IL 171 (Archer Avenue) to 87th Street, interchange reconstruction and lighting improvements. Two lanes open in each direction. Three ramps closed at LaGrange Road interchange with Archer Avenue. Traffic detoured onto eastbound Archer Avenue ramp to northbound LaGrange road which has been modified to accommodate two-way traffic. Signals in place to control traffic in detour area.
• Palos Heights: IL 7/ Southwest Highway over the Cal-Sag Channel, bridge rehabilitation. One lane open in each direction. Due to narrow lanes on bridge, trucks will be detoured along IL 83 and Harlem Avenue(IL 43).
  

CUMBERLAND COUNTY

• Interstate 70, mile marker 111 to 121, bridge deck replacements. One lane open at various locations.

DU PAGE COUNTY

• Addison and Elmhurst: US 20, Addison Road to Walnut Street, reconstruction and bridge replacement at Route 83. Traffic reduced to one lane in each direction through Addison and daily lane closures in Elmhurst.
• Naperville and Aurora: IL 59 from Glacier Park Avenue in Naperville to McCoy Drive in Aurora, pavement patching, asphalt resurfacing and repair to medians, curbs and gutters. Traffic reduced to one lane in each direction.

FAYETTE COUNTY

• IL 185, At Fayette/Montgomery County line, bridge replacement, one lane open. Traffic controlled by signals
• US 51, Southeast edge of Vandalia, bridge Replacement, one lane open each direction.

FULTON COUNTY

• IL 97 north of Cuba, bridge repairs. One lane open, traffic controlled by signals.

GALLATIN COUNTY

• IL 13, 2.5 miles west of IL 1, bridge repairs. One lane open, traffic controlled by signals.
• IL 13, 2.2 mile east of IL 1, bridge repairs. One lane open, traffic controlled by signals.
• IL 13, at Junction, bridge repairs. One lane open, traffic controlled by signals.
• IL 13, 1 mile east of Shawneetown, bridge repairs. One lane open, traffic controlled by signals.

GRUNDY COUNTY

• Goodfarm Road over I-55, bridge repairs, ROAD CLOSED, NO POSTED DETOUR.
• Eastbound Rest Area, near milepost 117, CLOSED.

HAMILTON COUNTY

• IL 242, 5 miles North of Mcleansboro, bridge replacement, one lane open, traffic controlled by signals.
• IL 242, 6 miles North of Mcleansboro, bridge replacement, one lane open, traffic controlled by signals.

HENRY COUNTY

• Interstate 80, mile marker 19 to mile marker 36, reconstruction of the pavement and bridges from Geneseo to Annawan. One lane open in each direction.
• Interstate 80, mile marker 11, eastbound traffic only will be restricted to one lane during replacement of the bridge over Osco Road just east of I-74.

IROQUOIS COUNTY

• US 24 over I-57, staged bridge construction, one lane open each direction, 10'-6" WIDTH RESTRICTION.
• US 24 near Watseka, staged bridge construction, one lane open, controlled by signals, 12'-6" WIDTH RESTRICTION.

JACKSON COUNTY

• IL 3, 1 mile south of Gorham, bridge repairs. One lane open, traffic controlled by signals.
• Old IL 13, 4 miles west of Carbondale, bridge replacement. One lane open, traffic controlled by signals.

JEFFERSON COUNTY

• Interstate 57, mile post 92, bridge replacement, two lanes open each direction.
• IL 37, 5 miles south of Mt.Vernon, bridge replacement, one lane open, traffic controlled by signals.

JO DAVIESS COUNTY

• IL 84, closed one mile south of US 20 to remove pavement, change roadway grade, and build turn lanes for new school under construction. IL 84 traffic is detoured on US 20, IL 78 and US 52.

JOHNSON COUNTY

• IL 146, over the CN/IC Railroad, 2.25 miles NW of Dixon Springs, bridge replacement, one lane detour open, traffic controlled by signals.

KANE COUNTY

• Batavia: IL 25 over the Prairie Path, bridge replacement at the BNSF Railroad. Traffic controlled by signal allowing one lane of alternating traffic to cross the bridge. Intersection of IL 25 and Bond Drive closed. Northbound drivers detour along IL 56 and Hart Road. Southbound drivers detour along Wilson, Prairie and Pine Streets, and Hart Road.

KANKAKEE COUNTY

• IL 17, near Reddick, staged bridge construction, one lane open, controlled by signals. (Two bridges within a mile of each other). 10'-6" WIDTH RESTRICTION.
• IL 17 (Court Street over ICG tracks) in Kankakee, staged bridge construction, one lane open each direction.
• IL 50 near Brookmont Avenue, staged bridge construction, one lane open each direction.

KNOX COUNTY

• US 150, east of Galesburg, bridge repairs. One lane open, traffic controlled by signals.

LAKE COUNTY

• Gurnee: IL 21/ Milwaukee Avenue: bridge reconstruction, lighting, lane additions. Traffic reduced to one lane in each direction from Washington Street to south of IL 120. Ramps at IL 21 and IL 120 are closed at this interchange.

LA SALLE COUNTY

• I-80 near milepost 80, staged bridge construction, one lane open each direction.
• IL 351 over Illinois River (Shippingsport Bridge), bridge reconstruction, ROAD CLOSED, DETOUR POSTED.

LAWRENCE COUNTY

• IL 1 near Pinkstaff, bridge replacement, one lane open, traffic controlled by signals.

LOGAN COUNTY

• Interstate 55, mile parker 123-127 on the west side of Lincoln, (Bridge Deck Replacement), three lanes will be reduced to two lanes in each directions.

MACOUPIN COUNTY

• IL 111, over Otter Creek South of Hettick (Stage Bridge Construction) one lane traffic is controlled by signals.

MADISON COUNTY

• IL 140, west of IL 111 in Bethalto, pavement removal and replacement, one lane open each direction and one bi-directional lane open.

MCLEAN COUNTY

• Interstate 55, mileposts 179 to 181 and 186 to 187, staged bridge repairs, one lane open each direction, 11'-9" WIDTH RESTRICTION.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY

• IL 108 over Interstate 55 ( Stage Bridge Construction ), two way traffic controlled by lane shifts.
• IL 48 over Interstate 55 ( Stage Bridge Construction), two way traffic controlled by lane shifts.

POPE COUNTY

• IL 146, west edge of Golconda, bridge replacement, one lane detour open, traffic controlled by signals.

ROCK ISLAND COUNTY

• Interstate 74, mile marker 0 to mile marker 2, rehabilitation of the structures from the Mississippi River to Seventh Street in Moline. One lane open in each direction. The eastbound off-ramp to Third Street and the Third Street on-ramp for westbound I-74 are CLOSED.
• Interstate 74, mile marker 4 to 5, replacement of the bridges over the Rock River and at the I-280 interchange. One lane open in each direction with the eastbound I-74 to I-280 CLOSED and the westbound I-280/74 ramp to eastbound I-74 also CLOSED. Detours are marked for the traffic for the ramp closures.
• Interstate 280, mile marker 13 to 17, bridge replacement over Airport Road as part of the interchange reconstruction. One lane open in each direction with the eastbound ramps CLOSED.

SANGAMON COUNTY

• Interstate 55 from South of Divernon, mile post 82, to North of Glenarm, mile post 86, three lanes will be reduced to two lanes in each direction (Stage Bridge Construction).
• Interstate 72 eastbound over 6th Street South edge of Springfield, one lane traffic eastbound only (Stage construction to replace damaged beams).

ST. CLAIR COUNTY

• Interstate 255, southbound, mile post 22, bridge repairs, two of three lanes open.

UNION COUNTY

• IL 146, 2 miles west of Jonesboro, bridge replacement, one lane open, traffic controlled by signals.

WHITESIDE COUNTY

• Interstate 88, mile marker 35 to 37, replacement of the deck on the Rock River bridge southwest of Rock Falls. One lane open in each direction.

WINNEBAGO COUNTY

• US 20 at BUS 20 at the west edge of Rockford, replacement of the eastbound US 20 bridge over BUS 20. Eastbound traffic restricted to one lane.
• US 20 over Cunningham Road on the southwest side of Rockford. Bridge replacement restricting traffic to one lane each direction.
• US 20 over Coolidge Creek approximately seven miles west of Rockford. Bridge replacement restricting traffic to one lane each direction.
• IL 2 over an unnamed stream located 1.2 miles south of Rockford. Structure replacement. One lane open , traffic controlled by signals.
• IL 70 at Harrison Road four miles west of Rockford. Road closed for grade change and pavement replacement. Detour marked on Telegraph Road and Winnebago Road.
