Dixon, Illinois -- June 24, 2002...The Illinois Department
of Transportation, located in Dixon, announces an update to the public regarding
construction activities for roadway improvements underway on I-74 from John
Deere Road (IL 5) to Airport Road in Moline. The contractor is ready to place
beams on the bridge carrying I-74 over the Rock River. Westbound lanes on I-74
must be closed while the beams are delivered.
Westbound I-74 will be closed at the Rock River for intermittent 20 minute periods between 4:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Monday thru Friday, starting on June 28. It is expected that it will take about three weeks to place all the beams. Roadway message boards will alert motorists of closure. To avoid delays, motorists should use Detour Route C (27th Street).
Reconstruction of the westbound I-74 bridge is on schedule to be completed by November 22, 2002. Project updates can be found on the project website at http://www.dot.il.gov/i74/default.html. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by June 1, 2004.
