SPRINGFIELD, IL -- Motorists will experience nighttime lane closures on northbound I-55 at South Grand Avenue in Springfield on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Overhead sign trusses are being replaced which will necessitate the closing of the passing (left) lane between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. on both Wednesday, Aug. 28, and Thursday, Aug. 29. Additionally, there will be intermittent 10 minute closures of all northbound lanes during the night. The contractor will be working at the interchange during both days, but that work should not cause any lane closures.

Motorists wanting to avoid delays are urged to seek alternate routes of travel. Motorists driving through the area should reduce their speed, drive with caution, and be prepared to stop at any time.
