Springfield , IL --The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that highway construction work will be suspended, where possible, on state highways to give motorists a break for the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Work zone areas will be opened for normal traffic patterns during the afternoon of Friday, September 3, and will remain open until midnight Monday, September 6.

However, there will be a number of work zones that will continue to have lane closures. Motorists are advised to slow down and be alert in these work zones, and are reminded that work zone speed limits are still in effect. • Don't drink and drive.
• Don't drive while you are tired.
• Always focus on your driving.

Remember that speed and driver distractions are the major causes of work zone crashes. Additional State Police will be out patrolling to help keep this season a safe season. By working together and obeying the rules of the road lives will be saved.
