Early Completion for Franklin Street Connector at I-55 and
I-90/94
SCHAUMBURG, IL — The year-long project to rehabilitate the Franklin Street
Connector at the Stevenson Expressway (I-55) and the Dan Ryan Expressway
(I-90/94) near Chicago’s Chinatown neighborhood will come to an end almost four
weeks ahead of schedule.
By the evening rush period on October 2, weather permitting, all lane
closures on the north- and southbound Franklin Connector from Cermak Road (22nd
Street) to the Dan Ryan will be removed. In addition, the northbound I-55 ramp
to northbound Franklin and the southbound Franklin ramp to southbound I-55 will
re-open to traffic for the first time since January.
By the morning rush period on October 3, the heavily traveled ramp from
southbound I-55 to southbound I-90/94 will also re-open for both passenger car
and truck traffic.
The $17.9 million project involved the replacement of seven bridges,
complete pavement reconstruction of the Franklin Connector from Cermak Road to
the Dan Ryan, reconstruction of two ramps between the Stevenson and the Dan
Ryan, and improved highway lighting. The scheduled completion date was October
31.
Overnight lane closures may still occur to allow crews to perform
miscellaneous clean-up activities.
