The Illinois Department of Transportation has completed its update of the
Illinois State Transportation Plan and would like to thank those who provided
input into the plan. The 2005 State Transportation Plan focuses primarily on the
state’s policies, goals and objectives for Illinois’ transportation system and
provides an overview of the department’s direction for the future. The
transportation plan identifies anticipated trends, needs and issues that will
affect transportation service and demand over the next two or three decades.
This new plan supersedes the previous plan which was released in March of 1995.
The 2005 State Transportation Plan is the foundation for the development of the
State Long Range Transportation System Plan. The State Long Range Transportation
System Plan that will provide detailed analysis of the needs of the
transportation system and will be guided by the requirements of the new federal
legislation passed in 2005, Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient
Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), will get underway in
2006.
A series of public informational meetings to seek input on the proposed
transportation plan was held throughout the state between November 29 and
December 8, 2005. Comments were received from various interests, both public and
private sectors and were taken into consideration during preparation of the
final document. A summary of the comments received is available below.
The document can be downloaded from this website or if you prefer, copies can be
