Local Funding Splits

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) allocates 30 percent of Illinois’ $936 million share of the highway and bridge funding to local governments ($281 million). The ARRA further allocates funding to the largest urbanized areas in Illinois with a population over 200,000 ($203 million) and a portion ($78 million) to the remaining areas of the state. IDOT subdivided the $78 million portion with $45 million split among areas between 5,000 and 200,000 in population and nearly $33 million split to the rural areas (counties) in the state. The sub-allocation tables are attached.

The funds distributed to the local agencies must be federally obligated within one year of apportionment by FHWA (this deadline is estimated to be March 2010), or these funds will be redistributed to other states.
