Welcome to US Route 20 @ McLean Boulevard Website!

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) plans to perform a total reconstruction of the US 20 over McLean Boulevard interchange into a Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI).

A Single Point Urban Interchange is an interchange with a single intersection versus two existing intersections at the ramp terminal.

In addition, IDOT will replace and widen the US 20 bridge structure over McLean Boulevard, while constructing two new retaining walls. Finally, IDOT will widen and reconstruct McLean Boulevard from south of Fleetwood Drive to north of Lillian Street into a 4-lane divided cross section with left/right turn lanes at major intersections.

The purpose of the $50 million dollar project is to enhance the flow of traffic and reduce the potential for accidents through improved safety features. The goal of the US Route 20 Interchange Reconstruction is to provide a safer ride for the motoring public. IDOT anticipates more commercial development along with urban renewal and public advancement. Motorists should expect delays and use caution when workers are present. IDOT suggests using alternate routes and public transportation.

Aggressive law enforcement and awareness campaigns and significant improvements to work zone safety traffic control reduced Illinois work zone fatalities from 44 in 2003, including 5 workers, to provisionally 30 with 3 workers killed in 2010.
