Draft Purpose and Need Statement
Available for Review & Comment
In
accordance with Section 6002 of the SAFETEA-LU Act, the view of the public and
interested persons are being sought regarding the Purpose and Need Statement for
the project that proposes transportation improvements along U.S. 30 from Fulton
to Rock Falls in Whiteside County. According to FHWA Technical Advisory
6640.8A, for major transportation projects such as US 30, the Purpose and Need
Statement must identify and describe the proposed action and the transportation
problem(s) or other needs which it intends to address. The Purpose and Need
Statement should clearly demonstrate that a “need” exists.

statement is also available for review at the Fulton, Odell (Morrison), Rock
Falls and Sterling Public Libraries, the IDOT District 2 office, and the
IDOT
Environment website.
Comments
should be submitted by August 29, 2008, to the Illinois Department of
